Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) was a transformative title when it dropped more than six years ago. It ushered in a new age for Call of Duty, introducing elements like universal cross-platform play, Warzone’s battle royale platform, and a rework of the esports scene in the Call of Duty League.
Thanks to a recent sale, we can now definitively say that the game isn’t done giving. In recent hours, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has hit new peaks on Steam as the game drops to a record-low price point of just $5.99, a 90% discount.
Modern Warfare is Running Wild
In a post on social media, Infinity Ward announced a double XP weekend for Modern Warfare, which might sound strange until you look deeper. On Steam, the game has managed to rise amid a massive 90% discount period that has dropped the title to the lowest price it has ever had.
At the time of writing, the player count was booming, hitting more than 40,000 concurrent users. To put that into perspective, the ‘Call of Duty HQ’ app that launches the more recent COD games, including Black Ops 7, had just 25,300 players. That number also includes Call of Duty: Warzone players.

Let’s reiterate that:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) has more concurrent players than Black Ops 7 and Warzone combined.
When it dropped in 2019, Modern Warfare became the fastest-selling Call of Duty game ever released. It was a turning point for the series that led to the most lucrative and popular period for the series. The success was then hampered hard in 2020 with the launch of Black Ops Cold War, a game that received a much weaker reception.
