Nintendo has announced some of what it will be doing to celebrate Mario Day (MAR10 Day). Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will get access to 3 classic titles, including a couple of Virtual Boy games that were not released when that platform was added to the NSO service.
Mario Day takes place next Tuesday, March 10. Nintendo announced on March 3 that it will be releasing Mario’s Tennis and Mario Clash on the Virtual Boy service from Nintendo Switch Online. Also, the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be available on the Game Boy Advance service on NSO.
Mario’s Tennis was actually the first tennis game to feature Nintendo’s mascot. Released in 1995, it took advantage of the Virtual Boy’s depth perception for some unique gameplay. Mario Clash was a take on the original Mario Bros. game, with Mario using a Powerball to knock out enemies.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong is simply a part of the original Game Boy Advance release. The game was remade for Nintendo Switch in 2024 with updated graphics.
What Else Could Be Coming on MAR10 Day
Plenty of Nintendo fans are delusionally hopeful that this year’s Mario Day could finally be the day Nintendo shows off a glimpse of the next 3D Mario game. It’s been almost 9 years since the release of Super Mario Odyssey on the original Nintendo Switch, and this is the longest gap between Mario releases.
However, it’s more likely that if anything more is to come from Nintendo, it could be a trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The movie will be released in less than a month on April 1. So far, trailers have shown off the likes of Yoshi, Birdo, Mouser, and more. Still, there’s the chance that Nintendo might want to provide at least one more reveal ahead of the movie’s theatrical release.
Previous MAR10 Days have also seen certain Mario titles go on sale on the Nintendo eShop. Overall, it remains to be seen how much Nintendo will do to celebrate MAR10 Day. If you want to celebrate, you can go to GameStop dressed up like Nintendo’s top Superstar and earn some store credit. If you’re in New York City, you can even try to break a record.
