Saros Reviews Make It A GOTY Contender

Housemarque has done it again (pretends to be shocked) and released another banger. Saros is the latest and greatest AAA title from the developer, and its reviews will be encouraging to anyone considering purchasing it.

If you’ve been following Housemarque for years like me, you already know what you’re getting: Spellbinding visuals, engaging and frenetic gameplay, and a cauldron of game mechanics intertwining together to make a memorable experience. With an extensive portfolio behind the developer, Returnal was a small step forward, and reviews suggest Saros is another huge leap for mankind.

At the time of writing, Saros has a Metacritic score of 88/100 based on 86 reviews on the PS5—not that there are any other Saros platforms available, mind.

The game has a litany of 10s and 100s. Saros has multiple maximum scores, and 95% of the reviews are considered ‘Positive,’ with only 5% ‘Mixed,’ and none as ‘Negative.’

For comparison, Returnal’s Metacritic score is 86/100, suggesting that Saros is the promised improvement.

If we throw Opencritic into the mix, then Saros has a 91 score, with a ‘Critics Recommend’ score of 95%.

Obviously, critical opinion doesn’t always mean everything, as we journalists can vary, but the consensus for Saros is a hugely positive one. This puts it just behind Resident Evil Requiem and Pokémon Pokopia for the best-rated games of 2026, and level with Mewgenics.

Saros is well and truly a GOTY contender, sure to be nominated for multiple categories at The Game Awards 2026.
