Hytale is a new competitor for Minecraft’s casual, sandbox throne, but why separate the two when you can bring both of them together with a crossplay mod!
It’s hard to even imagine the logistics behind this feat. Hytale has barely been out a breath, and someone has made it so that Minecraft and Hytale users can share the same server through crossplay. They’re similar games, yes, but this is ridiculous. It’s been done, and the results (so far) are beyond impressive.
Hytale & Minecraft Crossplay Mod In Action
Reddit user SSquadTeam shared their new creation in the Hytale subreddit. The ‘Hytale Client & Minecraft Client Crossplay! (W.I.P.)’ thread included a few pictures showing the work done so far.
It doesn’t appear that the mod is live to download right now, but the work is going well. Evidence shows players from each game can indeed exist in the same game space, and the user (AKA iamcxv7 on X) has revealed video footage of it in action.
One minute of gameplay footage underlines how operational it is at the moment. It’s so cool as each player is experiencing each other’s gameplay, but in their respective games. It’s the same design and layout, but with Minecraft and Hytale exporting a different graphical and presentational flair.
It gets better, as combat is also enabled in the crossplay mod.
The user said on Reddit: “The Hytale Server is the Host! Currently, many things are Broken and Hytale Server is the only one that has Authority. The MC Clients can only see each other and Hytale Players for now.” If there’s doubt about keeping up with each game’s continuously moving parts, they claimed: “I have all the time and energy. It’ll be OpenSRC either way down the line, so someone might pick it up even if I ever drop it.”
The legality and logistics of the mod might eventually prove to be a stumbling block, but it’s super-cool to see nonetheless; Minecraft and Hytale users might one day share the same connected world.
