A remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, called Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, has been announced for 2026. The game, revealed during The Game Awards, will take players back to Atlantis with Lara Croft with updated gameplay and a visual overhaul.
The Tomb Raider franchise has become one of the most recognizable video game series ever. Starring the titular Lara Croft, players are taken across the globe in search of archaeological treasures of mystical proportions. From the ruins of Atlantis to the jungles of Paititi, the globetrotting archeologist has been through a lot. Fans have been anxiously awaiting a new entry since 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, especially after a look at a redone Lara Croft a few years back. Finally, after being teased earlier in the week, Tomb Raider is headed to uncharted territory in a new title.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Remake Shows Redesigned Lara Croft in New Trailer
In the trailer, which premiered at The Game Awards, it was announced that 1996’s Tomb Raider is getting a fresh remake. A new design for Lara Croft is shown throughout, sporting a more modern look thanks to updated graphics. While brief, Lara gets some spotlight with some cool gameplay through Atlantis. Furthermore, the game is expected to launch in 2026 for the 30th anniversary.
The original Tomb Raider has been remade once before with 2007’s Tomb Raider Anniversary. While not a remake, a reboot of the series happened with the Survivor Trilogy, starting with 2013’s Tomb Raider. Still, with modernized graphics, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis may be the best way to play the beloved classic.
