MindsEye Actor Believed Game’s Flop Could End His Career

Alex Hernandez, the face, voice, and body behind MindsEye’s Jacob Diaz, recently appeared on a podcast to talk about his career, and that naturally included a segment on Build A Rocket Boy’s failed third-person shooter. In a candid breakdown, Hernandez revealed his concerns around the launch and reception of MindsEye, rated as one of the worst games ever released.

In his belief, MindsEye’s intense failure had the potential to derail his career permanently.

From Bad to Worse

In 2016, Alex Hernandez played the lead role of Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3, a game that suffered immeasurably at launch from bugs and optimization issues. It was seen as a pitfall of the series by many, and the flawed, open-world model it offered was pulled back for the recent launch of Mafia: The Old Country.

Fast forward to 2025, and Hernandez is fronting MindsEye, yet another failed game.

It prompted the actor to question whether he has some ethereal ability to kill that which he touches. During a recent episode of the FRVR Podcast, Hernandez explained what he meant:

I’m not a superstitious man… Do I have, like, the opposite of the golden touch? Like the shit-brown touch? Everything I touch turns to poop?

(Thanks to GamesRadar for the spot)

He went on to talk about the launch of MindsEye specifically, addressing his innermost thoughts about his future on a very real level:

I was like, ‘I might never work in a game again.’

One of the caveats of being the face on the box is that people rightly or wrongly will associate all of their opinions and, more importantly, their emotions, about this game with my face.

The quote can be found around the 45-minute mark in the recent FRVR Podcast episode.

MindsEye has a critic rating on Metacritic of just 37, and a user score of 2.4. It’s the lowest-rated game of 2025, falling behind Tamagotchi Plaza, Ambulance Life, and Captain Blood.
