In recent Ubisoft news, the company’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, suggested that the reason for Star Wars Outlaws’ failure was due to a dwindling interest in the brand. The comment drew criticism from gamers worldwide, many of whom were quick to point out the performance issues and gaping holes in Outlaws.
During the most recent episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly Podcast, our very own Tom Henderson dropped an exclusive, revealing that a sequel to Outlaws was planned but ultimately was scrapped very early as the wind fell out of the sails.
Not Set in Stone
Star Wars Outlaws was a monumental flop compared to the expectations put in place from Ubisoft. In September 2024, I exclusively revealed that Star Wars Outlaws had sold just one million copies in a month, representing an underwhelming performance for the game.
In the most recent episode of The Insider Gaming Weekly Podcast, Tom Henderson addressed a few tidbits from within Ubisoft, including one that mentioned an Outlaws sequel.
Here’s the full episode:
In the podcast episode, Henderson explains:
They also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2, because that was planned and in the works. It didn’t enter production, as far as I know. It wasn’t set in stone.
It’s hardly surprising that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel was canned, given the reception of the first game. The title fell out of the sales charts as quickly as it entered, and there was no lasting impact from the game beyond a few residual patches being deployed to address the game’s most critical issues.

That sucks, its a dope game. I could see a sequel being a Star Wars GTA like with different vehicles and cities
