Battlefield 2042 didn’t have a campaign, leading to questions about whether Battlefield 6 would also exclude the game mode.
Most Battlefield games in the series have featured a campaign. Both Battlefield Bad Company games, as well as Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 3 in particular, received critical acclaim for their single-player narratives.
That being said, DICE completely scrapped a single-player experience for Battlefield 2042 and invested all of its resources in Multiplayer. Some fans feared that Battlefield Studios would do the same for the upcoming installment, so let’s take a look at what the plans are.
Does Battlefield 6 Have a Campaign?

Yes, Battlefield 6 features a traditional campaign.
Battlefield Studios combines Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studio. Each development team is responsible for a different element of Battlefield 6. DICE is developing multiplayer content, such as destruction systems, classes, squad play, vehicles, and gadgets. Meanwhile, Motive Studio is responsible for developing multiplayer maps and Single-Player mission content.
Ripple Effect is reportedly developing a battle royale, and Criterion is primarily focused on the campaign.
Criterion Senior Producer Danny Isaac explained, “Mainly, we’ve been focused on the Single-player experience. The campaign is back for Battlefield.
Motive Studio and Criterion come to the table with impressive resumes.
Criterion rose to fame by creating the iconic Burnout franchise. Then, after being purchased by EA in 2004, the studio shifted focus to developing Need for Speed titles. In addition to helping develop Star Wars Battlefront 2, Criterion assisted EA on Battlefield 1, 5, and 2042.
Meanwhile, Motive Studio developed the critically acclaimed Dead Space remake in 2023, Star Wars: Squadrons, contributed to Star Wars Battlefront 2, and is also collaborating with Marvel Games on the upcoming Iron Man game.
What to Expect From The Battlefield 6 Campaign
The Battlefield 6 reveal trailer shared footage from the campaign. In the YouTube description, Battlefield Studios explained, “Witness the vicious path of destruction carved by Pax Armata, the world’s leading private military company. PAX pursues the destruction of NATO and its allies, stopping at nothing to uphold their motto: Our Protection, Your Peace.”
Based on that preview and the footage, the campaign presumably follows the United States military and other allied forces as they fight to take down Pax Armata.
Ars Technica reported that the BF6 will feature a six-hour single-player campaign, which is relatively short but average for the series. For example, the Battlefield 5 campaign only took around six hours to complete as well. Reliable Battlefield leaker Temporyal reported that there will be a prologue and eight missions set in various locations, including Egypt, Tajikistan, the USA, and Gibraltar.
That’s not the real issue, though. One developer reportedly told Ars Technica.
“Single-player in itself is massively late—it’s the latest part of the game. Without an enormous patch on day one or early access to the game, it’s unrealistic that they’re going to be able to release it to what they needed it to do.”
“They might have to cut a part of the single-player out in order for the game to release with a single-player campaign on it. Or they would have to severely work through the summer and into the later part of this year and try to fix that.”
An undercooked campaign would be a severe blow for a game that desperately needs to succeed. As for what to expect from the story, leaks revealed story details. If you don’t want any spoilers, don’t read any further.
The leaked campaign details for Battlefield 6 reveal details about a mission in Gibraltar. Here, players have been tasked to take back “the Rock” from Pax Armata forces, who are in the process of seizing this “strategic location”. Other details, such as the player’s team ‘Dagger 1-3’, were also mentioned, which has been “deployed to support NATO and British forces, including a British unit named Lancer.”
Other leaked details seem more like campaign objectives for a particular mission, which include establishing “a beachhead”, destroying “floating mines”, accessing “Gibraltar’s historic Great Siege Tunnels”, and neutralising anti-air (AA) batteries.
