A New Guilty Gear Game Has Been Canceled

A new Guilty Gear game that had been in development has recently been canceled at developer ARC System Works.

Sources say that the game’s cancellation took place within the last couple of weeks. As far as a reasoning behind it, nothing was specifically mentioned by those who spoke under the condition of anonymity.

Insider Gaming did reach out to ARC System Works for comment, but had not heard back as of publishing.

Guilty Gear is a fighting series that first debuted in 1998 for the original PlayStation. Since then, there have been seven main line games along with six spin-off titles. The last Guilty Gear game, Guilty Gear Strive, was first released in 2021. It launched on Nintendo Switch in January 2025.

The in-development game had yet to be officially announced. However, when asked what this meant for the future of the series, one source said it was “back to the drawing board”, but that, based on what they knew, it wasn’t finished.

  • A game that tried to be for everyone and end up being for no one. So end uo falling off.

All the “new players” they tried to get end up leaving after 3 weeks.

All the hardcore fans end up stucked with the terrible decisions make to appeal those “new players” so they end up quitting the game because it wasn’t guilty gear anymore.

Totally deserved the killing off. Gaming companies need to understand than games don’t need to be for everyone. Better to appeal and make the hardcore fans happier because they gonna stay with you through up and downs. They are committed and passionate about the projects.

  • I believe there pouring assets into the new marvel game by net ease. It’s literally Dragonball fighters with marvel. I played Dragonball fighters and that was a very good game with a fairly large ip. But marvel is multiple times that of Dragonball. The money that they would be expecting. Especially with how well rivals did. I’m actually very excited about this if this theory is even somewhat correct.

  • I love Guilty Gear Strive, so I’m in for a new release!

The only thing I would improve is having the ability to chat with people, because fighting without talking feels awkward to me. I want to play with people who just want to have a good time, without bad feelings. I want to talk to other players to know how they think, and choose the people I feel good playing with.
