Adi Shankar, the mind behind the Castlevania and Devil May Cry TV series, confirmed that he purchased the rights to Duke Nukem.
Netflix struck gold with its television adaptation of the iconic video game franchise, Devil May Cry. After airing earlier this year, it has already been greenlit for a second season. Additionally, Devil May Cry 5 surpassed 10 million units in sales, following the success of the show.
The television showrunner has developed a knack for expertly capturing video game universes on a different medium, and he has no plans of slowing down.
Adi Shankar Acquires Duke Nukem TV & Film Rights

In an interview with Esquire, Shankar confirmed, “I bought the rights to Duke Nukem. Not the gaming rights, but I bought it from Gearbox.”
As for what fans can expect from the project, the outspoken producer didn’t mince words.
“It’s a middle finger to everybody. When Duke Nukem blew up, a bunch of people sat around trying to turn it into a brand, when it’s just a middle finger,” Shankar explained. “Duke Nukem can’t be made by a corporation, because the moment a corporation makes Duke Nukem, it’s no longer Duke Nukem. I don’t intend on having anyone tell me what to do on this one.”
Shankar did not provide a timeline for when the project will come out. Devil May Cry Season 2 is in development, and the producer is also attached to several other upcoming video game-related TV projects, including Hyper Light Drifter, PUBG, and Assassin’s Creed.
