I can’t believe it’s been eight years since the Nintendo Switch launched. Yet, here we are; Nintendo’s successor is the Switch 2. It’s not a complete reinvention; instead, a continuation of what has worked so well for nearly a decade. A faster and more powerful Switch with more capabilities, possibilities, and pizzazz.
With Mario and Donkey Kong gracing the console’s early weeks, you need to buy one. If you’re a UK resident, let’s see if a good ol’ midnight launch is available.
Is There a Midnight Launch for Nintendo Switch 2 in UK?
Yes, a handful of retailers are conducting a midnight launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the UK.
A midnight launch has been relegated to a product of a bygone era. They are seldom seen and are considered a has-been. But if you miss standing out in the cold (you can tell this is a UK guide) in a long line for hours, Nintendo is letting you do so.
Only, I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much.
Who’s Doing a Nintendo Switch 2 Midnight Launch in UK?
Smyths and Currys are two classic UK retailers holding special in-store midnight launches for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Currys Midnight Launch
I’ll start with the bad news first—the Currys midnight launch is only for those who’ve pre-ordered the Switch 2 with the retailer. Furthermore, the only store across the UK offering this midnight event is the store in Oxford Street, London. In essence, it’s a glorified click-and-collect opportunity for an extremely limited number of customers.
This means you can’t go up to any Currys at midnight and queue for a Switch 2. The only open shop is if you’ve pre-ordered their Switch 2 there. So that pretty much rules out Currys!
Smyths Midnight Launch
In more positive news, Smyths is opening five stores across the UK where anyone can waltz in and buy the console.
According to the retailer: “We will open selected stores at 11pm on Wednesday, 4th June for an exciting Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Event! Take part in an exciting Mario Kart World gameplay demo. Plus, the first 100 attendees will receive a FREE goodie bag packed with awesome Nintendo merch — while stocks last! No registration needed — play and celebrate the next level of Nintendo gaming with us!
Customers who pre-ordered for Click & Collect or In-Store Collection can collect their console from 12:01am. Photo ID is required to collect pre-orders.
We will also have limited stock of Nintendo Switch 2 available for purchase!”
