Last of Us Show Reportedly Leads To Increase In The Last of Us Part 2 Sales

The Last of Us Part 2 saw a resurgence in sales thanks to season 2 of HBO’s adaptation.

According to Chris Colombo, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered saw roughly 2 million in unit sales during season 2’s airing window.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launched on PlayStation 5 in January 2024 and to PC in April 2025. The PC release took place just before the start of Season 2, and, according to SteamDB, had a peak concurrent user count of 30,690. Data for its performance on PlayStation 5 isn’t publicly available.

The Last of Us season 2 recently wrapped up it’s seven-episode run on HBO and Max. While the show still saw millions of people tune in, it’s season finale viewership fall by 55% compared to the end of season 1. That said, HBO believes numbers for the finale will rebound due to it airing on a holiday weekend in the United States and United Kingdom. The show, according to HBO, is averaging around 37 million viewers per episode.

Insider Gaming has reached out to Sony for confirmation on the sales performance of the game over the last two months. Should an official response be received, it will be added to this story.
