Marvel Rivals players continue to be treated to significant updates, introducing new characters and maps, but the arrival of an auto-battler game mode has certainly raised eyebrows.
Season 2.5 in Marvel Rivals is right around the corner, and while it won’t immediately be available at the start of the season, the new auto-battler mode lands shortly after—giving you another way to enjoy your favorite Marvel heroes and villains.
If you want to learn more about the auto-battler game mode in Marvel Rivals, you’re in the right place.
What is Marvel Rivals’ Auto Battler?

Marvel Rivals’ Auto Battler mode is called Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol and is a limited-time game mode launching in Season 2.5 on June 6.
The mode works similarly to games like Teamfight Tactics or Auto Chess, pitting you against five other players. Each player selects six different heroes from the Marvel Rivals roster, although the full roster is not available.
Players then set up their team in a format of their choosing, with positioning being a crucial factor, and heroes will then fight automatically.
Cards are used to enhance your heroes, like boosting attack speed, increasing health, and damage reduction. After each round, players select one of four cards.
Full details of the mode are yet to be fully shown, including an explanation of the multipliers that are shown over a character’s head in the mode, how you are eliminated from a match, and how the shop system works.
Further details will be announced before the mode is available from June 6, and we’ll likely see a more detailed deep-dive into the mode, so watch this space.
Is Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol a Permanent Mode?
It’s not known whether Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol is a permanent addition to Marvel Rivals, or whether it is a limited-time game mode.
As the mode is dubbed as “experimental” by Netease, it could appear for a limited-time, then disappear to be reworked on, before returning permanently in the future. Currently though, it’s all speculation.
It does seem more likely to become a permanent mode than other limited-time modes that have been added to Marvel Rivals in the past, however, particularly as there is a lot more detail to it, rather than just being a tweak of the game modes that already exist.
For now though, we’ve been left in the dark but there could be news soon.
