Reburn, formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine, has suddenly spun a 180 and released La Quimera, a sci-fi shooter that was delayed on release day following a spate of negative reviews (including mine).
The new release date has come as a surprise, as there was no real indication that La Quimera was going to see the light of day, outside of a spontaneous decision to pivot to an early access model by Reburn on April 29.
I was very excited to get my hands on the all-new shooter on account of it portraying some Killzone-mixed-with-Crysis vibes, but what was delivered fell short of my expectations.
Out Now, I Guess
La Quimera has now been released on Steam in early access, which was a new concept announced by the Reburn team on April 29.
In a statement on Steam, they wrote:
As many of you know, we didn’t hit our window to launch last week due to technical hurdles which impacted our ability to get the game live. While we initially strove for a quick resolution, the situation required more time and care than we anticipated.
We intended to keep communications clear but also chose to wait it out until we had an update to share, but waiting it out caused more misunderstandings. We’ve been focused on working through how to get the game live.
Reburn has promised to expand and evolve La Quimera, but given the nature of the release debacle, it’s unlikely many people will be there to follow that expansion.
In a new press release, Dmytro Lymar, Reburn’s CEO, said:
Though this wasn’t our original plan, as Ukrainian game developers, we’re very familiar with perseverance in the face of tough choices and tougher odds. Our goal is to deliver a new experience that fans of our past work have come to expect now and through future updates. Thank you again to all of our supporters.
La Quimera is a relatively run of the mill shooter with dated visuals that offers little in the way of innovation. I found the character models to be bizarre, the voice acting was sub-par, and the story was bland enough to kill any interest I had in the title.
If you want to try La Quimera, it’s out now on Steam. Let me know what you think on the Insider Gaming forum.
