The Fortnite servers are an up-and-down rollercoaster of emotions for players. They go on and off quicker than a light switch, and if you want to know if and why the Fortnite servers are down, Insider Gaming has the answers you seek.
Fortnite continues to be an unbelievable and untouchable phenomenon. Chapter 7 leads the way as the next new chapter for EPic’s free-to-play shooter, and no matter how much money it brings in, the servers can go down faster than coming up against a team armed with Shottys.
This handy guide provides regular updates on the Fortnite servers and whether they’re operational.
Is Fortnite Down Right Now?

As of December 5, the Fortnite servers are down, meaning no one can access the game across its many platforms.
According to the Epic Games server status page, there is an “Issue with relayed connections.” The issue seems to be one of the most consistent reasons for this happening: Cloudflare.
The severity of a Cloudflare outage varies, but it normally affects a wide range of services and games: Fortnite, Roblox, Canva, and many more.
Even if it comes back up, you may have to allow for some infrequent disconnects and a complete failure to connect.
Why Do Fortnite Servers Go Down?
One of the biggest reasons Fortnite servers need to go down for hours at a time is maintenance. In most cases, it’s to enable the integration of a new season’s worth of content into the free-to-play shooter.
Using Chapter 6, Season 3, as an example, it caused havoc with the servers. They were down much longer than usual, leaving the whole community to twiddle its thumbs and plot its Fortnite plans instead of playing them out in real-time.
Carrying on with the example, the initial downtime is so that Chapter 6, Season 2, can be phased out. This allows sufficient time to make the switch to Season 3 and let players enjoy the new truckload of content that comes pouring in.
But as with this fault, another huge and unpredictable aspect is a Cloudflare issue.
How to Check Fortnite Server Status
There are two crucial ways to see if the servers are active: The Epic Games server status page and social media.
We’ve already provided a link to the server status page in an earlier section. This shows the community every aspect of Fortnite and its real-time condition. This is a quick way to check how the servers are at a given moment.
Another way is to check Fortnite socials: This includes the official Fortnite X page, the Fortnite Status X page, the Discord, and even Reddit for reactions from players such as you and me.
