In case you’ve been living under a rock, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has become a sensation. The RPG was developed by a small team and is already a GOTY contender. Better yet, a movie adaptation is in the works, but it’s actually been in the pipeline for months.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hasn’t had the coverage that DOOM: The Dark Ages, Oblivion Remastered, or even Days Gone Remastered have, but this hasn’t stopped it from shocking us all. As of writing, the turn-based RPG is 2025’s highest-rated game, and it’s very quickly passed an incredible milestone.
Special praise has been given to its voice cast, writing, and narrative. Which makes for interesting reading as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is getting a movie. This is great news, but not fresh news.
A Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Movie is in Development

The movie announcement wasn’t recent, and it only just fell into this year! It was first announced by Variety on January 30 that the action film was greenlit.
It’s surprising, as this was months before the game came out. A lot of trust and faith were shown in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but it’s confirmed: “Sandfall Interactive is teaming with Story Kitchen to develop a film version of the game, which will be published by Kepler Interactive.”
This looks to be a masterstroke given the positive reception to the game. Video game movie adaptations are at an all-time high right now, and modern-day filmmaking techniques should make Clair Obscur 33 shine on the silver screen.
