Indian Esports Organization ZEDI Esports Suddenly Shuts Down Leaving Chess Grandmaster Without a Team for EWC

Indian Esports organization ZEDI Esports abruptly announced the closure of the organization due to “an ongoing dispute between the investors and the owners.”

The news comes only days after Zedi Esports competed in the Apex Legends event at the Esports World Cup 2026, and mere weeks before Chess Grandmaster Benjamin Bok was due to compete with the organization at the EWC Chess event.

ZEDI Esports suddenly shuts down

On July 16, ZEDI Esports unexpectedly announced the cessation of operations for the esports org, citing conflicts between investors and owners as ultimately fatal to the organization’s ability to run itself.

ZEDI Esports posted the following message on social media, explaining the decision:

“After years of passion, dedication, and countless unforgettable moments, we have made the difficult decision to shut down ZEDI Esports.

REASONS FOR SHUTDOWN:

  • Due to an ongoing dispute between the investor(s) and the owner(s).
  • This dispute has led to differences in vision and control of the organization.
  • As a result, the operations and future direction of ZEDI Esports cannot be continued.
  • In the best interest of the organization, players, and community, we have decided to shut down.

We are incredibly proud of what we achieved together and grateful to every player, fan, partner, and supporter who was part of this journey.

Thank you for believing in ZEDI.”

ZEDI Esports entered a total of five entrants into the Esports World Cup 2026, qualifying for the main events of the Apex Legends and Chess tournaments.

ZEDI Esports were amongst the 11 teams to reach Match Point in the Apex Legends Finals at EWC, coming agonizingly close to getting over the line and winning the event, ultimately placing fourth at the event.

Chess Grandmaster left without a team after ZEDI Esports Folds

The sudden collapse of the org has left Chess Grandmaster Benjamin Bok without a team despite qualifying for the Chess event at the Esports World Cup 2026.

The 31-year-old qualified for the event by winning the India Rising 2026 qualifying event, defeating Gen.G’s Arjun Erigaisi on the way to the title.

Chess at the Esports World Cup is set to start its main event on the 11th of August, in Week 6 of the seven-week event.

The sudden collapse has left the GM appealing for a new organization as EWC looms, posting on X, “Guess my org folded. I am qualified to play in EWC Chess group stage (Top 16). DMs open.”
