Yakuza Kiwami 3, a remake of Yakuza 3, has officially been announced at Tokyo Game Show 2025.
Released in 2009, Yakuza 3 continued the story of series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. It followed the ex-Yakuza as he runs an orphanage and fends off those who want his land. The game made its debut at the RGG Summit 2025, where Ryu Ga Gotoku showcased off their latest titles. Unfortunately, it did leak before its announcement, showing on the team’s website. Still, it’s now official with a brand new trailer.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 Reveals New Trailer, February 2026 Release
In the video, seen above, we see the events of Yakuza 3, done with next-gen graphics. A lot of the trailer goes over the story, as Kiryu defends his orphanage against those who seek to take it from him. We do see a few bits of gameplay, which looks up-to-date with recent titles like Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. However, it looks like many aspects have been changed, like character models and new story. It was also revealed that the game will be released on February 12th, 2026 and cost $59.99.
The remake is in a similar fashion to 2016’s Yakuza Kiwami and 2017’s Yakuza Kiwami 2. While fans can play the original Yakuza 3 on modern consoles, the remake, like it did for 1 and 2, is sure to make it a lot smoother. The original title struggled with the combat system, as enemies were unfair to fight. Plus, some content, like sub-stories, was left behind when it released worldwide. Hopefully, Yakuza Kiwami 3 will bring new life to the title and get the praise it deserves.
