Xbox Reveals Avowed Gameplay, Release Window at Developer Direct

Avowed Landscape And Enemy

Xbox has just revealed brand-new gameplay for the upcoming fantasy RPG Avowed at today’s Xbox Developer Direct.

Xbox has not confirmed a concrete release date for Avowed. But it will release sometime in Fall 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass at launch.

Obsidian Entertainment is the developer behind Avowed. The team previously worked on Grounded and The Outer Worlds. They are also actively developing a sequel to The Outer Worlds.

Xbox first announced Avowed back in July 2020, and didn’t reveal an official gameplay trailer until June 2023.

So, although we do know quite a few details about Avowed, it’s been a long wait for new visuals of the world and characters.

Avowed will be a first-person fantasy RPG set in Eora, the same world as Obsidian Entertainment’s hit Pillars of Eternity.

Players will explore a vast island with a variety of unique ecosystems, to investigate rumors of a spreading plague that affects both body and soul.

Combat will feature melee, ranged, and magical attacks, so that players can choose their own preferred gameplay approach.

In an official cosplay guide, Obsidian Entertainment also revealed more about the central character Kai. They are an idealistic former soldier you’ll meet early on as “your first companion”, implying others will appear.

Today’s new gameplay revealed a variety of combat features and environments that fans should expect in Avowed.

This includes a specific side quest about mysterious deaths, including key dialogue and player decisions. There were also new shots of vast landscapes like ‘Shatterskarp’.

It also revealed more enemies, narrative beats, and gameplay than the previous Avowed trailer. That first official trailer was mostly cinematic, setting up the basic premise of the game.

Avowed made another solid showing at Xbox’s latest Developer Direct. Launch swiftly approaches, so hopefully the devs will share more trailers soon.
