Everything we Know so far About Avowed

Avowed is the latest title from Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind The Outer Worlds, Grounded, Fallout: New Vegas, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed will take what has made previous Obisidian RPGs great and take that to the fantasy universe of Eora. Avowed looks like it could be one of the highlights of 2024, and here is everything we know so far.

Avowed Release Date

Avowed was first announced by Obsidian and Microsoft in 2020, with the release window finally being announced in June 2023. It has been confirmed that Avowed will be released in 2024, but no concrete release date has been announced yet.

What Platforms Will Avowed Be Released On?

Microsoft’s acquisition of Obsidian in 2018 has meant that future titles such as Grounded have been made Xbox exclusives, and the same will be true with Avowed. It has been confirmed that the game will be released on Xbox Series X and PC via Steam and the Xbox app.

Will Avowed Be On Xbox Game Pass?

Microsoft has confirmed that Avowed will be launching on Xbox Game Pass, which isn’t a surprise. All of Microsoft’s first and second-party games will be released on Xbox Game Pass at launch. With the acquisition of Obsidian by Microsoft, we can expect all of its titles to launch on the subscription service in the future.

Avowed Plot And Setting

Avowed takes place in the world of Eora, the same setting as the spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2. The player is a powerful mage who has been sent to the Living Lands to discover the origins of a plague that is corrupting the people of Eora.

Players will be able to forge their destiny as they interact with the many characters in the Living Lands, many of whom are very hesitant when it comes to your presence, meaning you will have to prove that you deserve their trust. Of course, you can also prove their suspicions correct and be a more evil character as you have the freedom to do what you want in the game.

Avowed Gameplay

Despite taking place in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed’s gameplay is completely different, shifting away from an isometric RPG style and instead focusing on a first and third-person RPG, which could be more likened to games such as Skyrim.

One of the best features of most Obsidian games is that players can largely play how they want, choosing to be good or bad and adapting a playstyle to suit them. Avowed will give you the freedom to mix and match weapons including swords and guns, as well as spells allowing for a very personalized playing experience.

Players will also interact with various companions who will be present throughout the game that you can build relationships with and interactions will help shape the story as you progress through the game. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like Avowed will be similar to The Outer Worlds in how it plays from a mechanic standpoint, but with a fantasy setting as it takes place in the Pillars of Eternity universe.
