Microsoft and ASUS have officially unveiled the all-new Xbox handheld during the Xbox Games Showcase. This reveal comes just weeks after images of a mysterious new ASUS ROG handheld device surfaced online, followed by a teaser posted by the tech titan itself.
It’s officially called the ROG Xbox Ally.
The earliest images revealed a relatively standard iteration of the ASUS ROG Ally handheld, but this time, the device was sporting an Xbox button and a different, more ‘controller-like’ shell.
Long Time Coming
The leaked images of the new ASUS ROG Ally handheld dropped shortly before claims appeared online suggesting that Microsoft had shelved plans for a first-party handheld device. This gels with the notion that the company had instead partnered with ASUS ROG to produce an ‘Xbox-themed’ handheld.
It was reported that Microsoft was pulling away from a first-party device in favour of Project Keenan, the touted ASUS ROG crossover device.
Taking to the broadcast during the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Sarah Bond officially unveiled the ROG Xbox Ally, lifting the lid on the handheld for all to see.
Here’s the trailer that promotes the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally:
The Xbox handheld boasts AMD Ryzen components and Xbox-inspired controls. It fuses perfectly with the Xbox Play Anywhere ecosystem to allow your library to ‘roam with you’.
Sarah Bond appeared following the reveal to say that the ROG Xbox Ally is ‘an Xbox you can hold in your hands’.
There will be two versions of the ROG Xbox Ally – the standard, and the ROG Xbox Ally X. The Ally X boasts the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme with 24 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The lower-tier model, the Xbox Ally, will have an AMD Ryzen Z2A component, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage.
These devices will be available in Holiday 2025.
