Following the blowback from the community regarding the steep cost of microtransactions in Splitgate 2, 1047 Games has declared a substantial price cut. The Nano Swarm bundle that was originally priced at $145 will now cost just $40 after the price decrease, and 1047 Games has stressed that this change is based on the critical feedback received from the community.
Fans were quick to praise 1047 Games for taking such swift action, which has included halving the price of the Nano Swarm bundle and partially refunding anyone who purchased the bundle at the higher price.
‘You Guys Are The Reason We’re Here’
Splitgate 2 appeared during the Summer Game Fest showcase recently, with Ian Proulx revealing a battle royale mode for the game. It has since become a smash hit with streamers worldwide, all of whom are jumping in to explore this expansive battle royale platform populated by world-splitting portals.
The most sour note to take away from the battle royale reveal concerned the hefty microtransactions, some of which were as high as $145 for a pack before discounts were applied.
In a post published recently on social media, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx explained the situation now:
The first thing I want to do is double-down on being community-first and listening to you guys. You guys are the reason we’re here. And so, the first action we’re taking is, we hear you loud and clear on the store prices.
That Nano Swarm bundle, we’re cutting the price in half. Some of the other items in the shop, we’re reducing the prices across the board.
We’re going to keep monitoring it, we’re going to keep listening, but that’s what we’re taking action on today. We’re also going to be issuing refunds for the difference in pricing for the Splitcoin that you’ve spent, you’ll get that back.
Proulx then went on to stress that the battle royale concept isn’t about ‘chasing a trend’ but more about innovating in the genre and introducing a new concept – a ‘battle royale arena shooter hybrid’. In his words, it’s true to Splitgate, it’s fast, you have power weapons and respawns, and it’s ‘taking it to the next level’.
