Controversial price increases to the Xbox Game Pass service have caused a stir in the community, and there are still plenty of unclear questions, including when exactly the changes come into effect.
Raising prices by as much as 50%, the addition of Fortnite Crew to Ultimate and over 90 titles have not quelled anger, leading many to question whether it’s still worth buying Xbox Game Pass in 2025.
The sudden announcement of pricing changes has also caught people off guard, but we’ve got all the details on when changes come into place.
When Does The Xbox Game Pass Price Increase Start?

The price changes to Xbox Game Pass tiers came into effect immediately upon their announcement on October 1st, so there is no grace period.
Instead, your next bill will reflect the updated prices, and the exact billing date depends on your subscription. You can check the exact billing dates in your banking app to see payment history, or via the subscription management on Xbox.
All future bills will reflect the new price structure for Xbox Game Pass, and by November 1, 2025, every subscriber should have been billed the new amount.
If you cancel your subscription before the next charge, you won’t pay the increased fee, though you will be charged the higher amount if you decide to resubscribe later down the line.
What is The Last Day to Cancel an Xbox Game Pass Subscription?
The last day to cancel an Xbox Game Pass subscription before being charged the increased price depends on when you activated your subscription.
You can check the next payment date by following these steps:
- Head to the Xbox website.
- Sign in to your account.
- Click ‘view Microsoft account’ in the top-right corner under your profile picture.
- Click on the Subscriptions option on the left-hand menu.
- Your next charge is shown at the top of the screen, alongside the full price.
You may still be able to save money on a subscription by purchasing from somewhere other than Xbox directly. For example, GameStop announced it would continue to sell Game Pass Ultimate memberships at the previous price point.
