How Much Does Pokémon Legends: Z-A Cost? Price Explained

More than ever right now, managing your costs is important when it comes to video games. With that said, how much will Pokémon Legends: Z-A cost?

The game’s release is quickly approaching, and while Pokémon is still the largest franchise in the world, there have been questions of value when it comes to the series’ recent releases.

Here is a full explanation of how much Pokémon Legends: Z-A will cost.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A costs $59.99 if you are buying the game on the original Nintendo Switch, or $69.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 version. If you have bought the Switch 1 version and want to upgrade later, there is a $9.99 upgrade pack available.

While there is a price difference between the two versions, they are largely the same game at the end of the day. The biggest difference you will notice between the two is that the Switch 2 version is essentially the next-gen update. All of the content is the same, but the frame rates are smoother and the resolution is increased.

The original Nintendo Switch is a great console, but it has definitely had a history of poor performance with certain games, and Pokémon is near the top of the list of the most noteworthy in that regard. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were plagued with various issues, and the creatures in the wild of Pokémon Legends: Arceus move like a slideshow at times.

Luckily, the Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of running the Switch 1 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. If you want to save a little money, you are more than capable of grabbing the last-gen version of the game and playing it until you want to later upgrade.

The price of the post-launch expansion in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, called Mega Dimension, costs $29.99. There is no price difference between platforms for the DLC.

Unfortunately, as of this writing, we do not know much about the Mega Dimension DLC outside of it including multiple mega evolutions for Raichu. It will likely be sometime in 2026 that this DLC becomes available for the game, with a Nintendo Direct or Pokémon Presents likely in the first half of the year, revealing other content included with the pack.

Do you plan on buying the Switch 1 or Switch 2 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A? Is the resolution and framerate upgrade enough to justify the $10 difference? Let us know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.
