Warner Bros. Games is making major changes within the company, and it involves restructuring around its core franchises. After the company stated in November 2024 that it was going to focus more on franchises like Mortal Kombat, Batman, and others, plans for that focus have moved forward with the publisher creating new divisions based on its biggest IPs.
First reported by Variety, Warner Bros. Games has created new divisions surrounding Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and the DC Universe.
The new divisions will see Warner Bros. Games Montréal studio head Yves Lachance oversee the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones franchises while NetherRealm Studio head Shaun Himmerick will lead the DC and Mortal Kombat franchises. Also moving into a new role is Warner Bros. Games New York studio head Steven Flenory, who is now senior vice president of central tech and services where he’ll oversee game and publishing technology along with customer service, quality assurance, and user research.
All three executives will report to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO of global streaming and games JB Perrette.
“Our company is home to some of the biggest franchises in the world, and we are optimizing our team structure to develop long-term franchise roadmaps to delight players and fans of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat and DC games,” Perrette said via release on Tuesday.
“We are very fortunate to have a strong stable of development and technology talent, and Yves, Shaun and Steven are respected leaders with excellent track records in their areas of expertise. I’m looking forward to working closely with them and the team as we work to make the best games possible for our key franchises.”
As part of this restructuring, Variety was able to confirm that no layoffs would be taking place. The restructuring also comes after the cancellation of Wonder Woman and the departure of former president David Haddad.
