Warner Bros. CEO May Have Teased A Superman Game

Recently, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, David Zaslav, took to the stage during the company’s Q1 2023 earnings call and spoke about the firm’s successes and thus far and about the road ahead. During this speech, he talked at length about the fact that WBD owns and develops its own IP, which gives the company full creative capabilities, whether that be for Harry Potter, the DCU, or Game of Thrones.

Zaslav also touched upon the Superman universe, talking about how a movie may be launched in ‘the next couple of years,’ and that people could thereafter ‘hang out in the Superman world’. He went on to reference the ongoing development of gaming in general and talked about how profitable the space is going to become in the years ahead.

It’s Believable Enough

It’s an inference more than anything, with Zaslav talking proudly of the success of Hogwarts Legacy and explaining how players immerse themselves in ‘that world’. He then pivoted immediately to talk about Superman and stayed on the same topic, suggesting people could someday ‘hang out’ in the ‘Superman world and universe’.

There’s a desire within WBD to focus more on gaming, especially given the recent dominance of Hogwarts Legacy, which was a sentiment clearly relayed by Zaslav during his speech (thanks to TweakTown for the quote):

… as technology develops, and given the amount of time that people spend on gaming, we don’t want to be in the motion picture and longform storytelling business and have somebody else in the business of hanging out in those worlds. Those worlds are going to be quite profitable in the years ahead.

It was reported by ComicBook.com in 2022 that James Gunn, who is heading up a Superman film set to release in 2025, wants to include video games in the ‘new DC cinematic universe’.

Is there a better place to start than with a fantastic, high-quality Superman game? It has been long enough that we’ve gone without one, and superhero games are popping off right now.
