‘The Boys’ Star Could Play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2

‘The Boys’ star Karl Urban could be in the running to play Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie.

The new report comes from The Wrap, which states that Karl Urban is in the final negotiations to play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2. Released in 2021, New Line’s Mortal Kombat generated a worldwide total of $84.4 million at the Box Office. In part, its Box Office earnings were low due to the film being released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max during COVID-19.

If you’ve watched the 2021 film, you’ll be familiar with the post-credits scene which teased the inclusion of Johnny Cage in the sequel. Previous rumors had suggested the likes of WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes were in the running for playing the role of Jhonny Cage, as well as WWE Superstar ‘The Miz’.

Urban is best known for playing “Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy” in “Star Trek” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness” and “Éomer” in the second and third installments of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings.” More recently, Urban has also seen success playing the role of “William ‘Billy’ Butcher” in the hugely successful TV show “The Boys”.

Mortal Kombat 2 is being directed by Simon McQuoid, who directed the first film and scripted by Jeremy Slater.

No official date has been given on when Mortal Kombat 2 will be released, but we suspect it’s still a few years away if they are still in negotiations with its cast.
