Vitality won their fifth event in a row with victory at BLAST Rivals Fort Worth 2026. The revered roster once again beat NAVI 3-0 in the Grand Final to claim the trophy.
However, after NAVI blew an 11-0 lead on Nuke, also wasting an 11-9 lead on Anubis, the dynamics of the maps were immensely different from the BLAST Rotterdam Grand Final.
So after the confetti has settled, is NAVI closer to or further from Team Vitality?
NAVI’s collapse on Nuke provides mixed messages
On the one hand, there’s a decent argument to say that NAVI are closer to Vitality after this event. After all, they achieved something no team ever has against this lineup, reaching an 11-0 scoreline.
In that 11-0 half, despite several clutches going their way, NAVI displayed an excellent understanding of what Vitality wanted to do and where their pieces needed to be to shut those plays down.
w0nderful’s rotations were the key, with w0nderful at Ramp to create that second layer when necessary, situated in Lockers to punish those smoke walks, and perched in Heaven when necessary for A defence.
Of course, NAVI’s preparedness on Nuke’s favoured CT side was equally counter-balanced by their collapse on the T-side, which seemed to combine wavering individual aim under pressure with tactical ineptitude.
After losing the pistol, NAVI spent the majority of their T rounds going Outside again, and again, and again. An A pop and a ramp rush were thrown in for good measure, but most rounds saw the team lose two players to smoke breaks and spam while attempting to make their way down Secret.
Clearly, the team thought they saw something about Vitality’s Outside hold, which didn’t exist, but their commitment to a one-dimensional approach may say more about the pressure they felt than the actual game plan.
Across the board, NAVI’s collapse was visible both in their tactics and the aim of their players, as Vitality’s players grew in strength, leading to a clean 16-12 overtime sweep.
Pressure plagues NAVI on Anubis before Vitality crushes NAVI on Dust2
Again, on Anubis, NAVI put themselves in an excellent position to close out the map. After losing the pistol and conversion, NAVI put together a proactive CT side that countered the classic pitfalls of Anubis’ CT side.
Immediately after, the pistol win again became a nightmare for NAVI, losing the forcebuy before losing against another eco at 8-8.
Interviewed by Insider Gaming, NAVI igl aleksib stated, “If they manage to lose a pistol, they win the second round too many times compared to other teams… that’s one of the things that keeps them strong, is that they can win these hero AK rounds or deagle rounds or rounds with one or two saved weapons so much more than other teams.
“You need to play flawlessly when you play against them if you want to crack them open, because as soon as they win that round and they get the momentum, it’s just over.”
Those rounds proved to be expectedly crucial for the ending scoreline, but they did not immediately seem as consequential. NAVI managed to recover to get the scoreline to 11-9.
It goes without saying that a Tier 1 team would take an 11-9 lead on Anubis’ T-side 10 times out of 10 when given the choice. Against Vitality, with their money on the brink, it is frankly a dream scenario.
However, that number again proved to be the moment confidence finally drained from NAVI, producing languishingly passive rounds to fall to an 11-13 scoreline, all but confirming the trophy would once again go to Vitality.
On Vitality’s most dominant map of Dust 2, they vanquished a demoralized and beaten NAVI roster 13-3 following another outstanding 19-9 performance from ZywOo.
Are NAVI any closer to Vitality after BLAST Fort Worth defeat?
In a purely competitive sense, NAVI were closer to Vitality than at BLAST Open Rotterdam. That is a sentiment shared by Vitality players such as apEX and flameZ, who stressed how tough the contest was on social media.
However, in the wider context of the year, that progress loses its luster, with Vitality’s IGL stating that the team did not practice prior to the event after their emotionally demanding IEM Rio run secured their second ESL Grand Slam.
flameZ echoed Vitality’s exhaustion after the Grand Final, stating, “To be honest, we’re f**king tired. Grand Slam took a lot of energy out of us, then we have 4 days off, jetlag to Europe, then jetlag again to America.
“We just came here and didn’t have expectations to win, obviously, teams at this event are not as big names as in other tournaments, but we just said to each other, let’s give our best.”
Well, Vitality’s depleted best was superior to NAVI’s most complete version of this roster so far. Not only that, but the mental damage done by losing that 11-0 lead may not be easy to shake for this NAVI roster.
We have seen several rosters already collapse in chasing Vitality’s extremely high bar, with Spirit, Falcons, FURIA, and MOUZ all falling off as Vitality continue to break record after record.
For NAVI, the test until the end of the season may be to keep their inner strength, knowing that any tournament run will inevitably lead to Vitality.
Further into the future, the number of low-buy rounds and close situations that NAVI lost will once again open up the conversation about adding more firepower to the roster.
When asked by Insider Gaming whether NAVI could take the next step without adding more firepower, aleksib stated that “if you have a unit that works well together, you can beat any team in Counter-Strike”, but Counter-Strike has never seen a team like Vitality.
The pressure that Vitality can exert in those low-buys, that so frequently punish NAVI, can be attributed to composure and experience, but it can equally be attributed to the skill gap between their individuals.
The Finn also stated that “There’s something missing when it comes down to trying to beat Vitality.” One wonders whether that will come with an upgrade in personnel after the IEM Cologne Major.
