US Video Game Spending Fell 21% In June 2026

Video game spending in the United States saw a 21% drop compared to June 2025.

The latest data from Circana revealed that US consumers spent $4.5 billion on gaming software, subscriptions, hardware, and accessories. That was down from the $5.7 billion last year.

Hardware Saw The Biggest Drop

When breaking down the spending, hardware is where the biggest drop happened. Hardware spending in June 2026 fell by 62% to $383 million. The drop from $1 billion in June 2025 can be attributed to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which was released on June 5, 2025.

Elsewhere, accessory spending fell 21% from $294 million to $232 million. Finally, content spending, which includes software, DLC, and subscriptions, fell by 12% from $4.398 billion to $3.88 billion.

For the year, spending is 1% behind 2025’s pace at $27.5 billion for 2026.

According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, subscriptions were the only segment of game spending that rose year-over-year. Subscriptions actually rose by 7% while everything else, including mobile, fell.

Looking at consoles specifically, the Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling hardware in both dollars and units sold for the month. That was followed by the PlayStation 5, which saw a 19% year-over-year drop, and the Xbox Series X|S.
