Troy Baker says we have not seen the last of Joel from The Last of Us.
Troy Baker brought Joel to life in The Last of Us video games. On the TV series, however, Pedro Pascal portrayed Joel. Recently, Baker reflected on watching the character’s demise on the HBO series. Now, he says he hopes there’s still more of Joel to come.
Troy Baker Wants to See More of The Last of Us’ Joel
Speaking with Victoria Phillips Kennedy of Eurogamer, Baker praised the TV show, crediting the game’s creator, Neil Druckmann, for being willing to let the adaptation come to life.
“I really applaud [game creator Neil Druckmann] for being able to go ‘yes, let’s do this show’. He knew the story of Joel and Ellie was important enough, and sometimes, you have to bring the mountain to the man. There will be people who would never pick up the controller and never experience that story, and what a tragedy that would be. So, let’s bring it to them.”
Furthermore, Baker described the difficult scene of watching Joel’s death. Ultimately, he commended Pedro Pascal but said he hopes the Joel character will be brought back to life. Regardless of the media event that will portray him, Baker knows in his heart that players haven’t seen the last of Joel.
“I hope that Pedro is not the last person to play Joel,” he continues. “I want to see this character be proliferated and iterated on in multiple mediums, whether it be TV, film, more games, comic books. I see people that cosplay as [Joel] all the time… he made an impact.
“I definitely know we’ve not seen the last of Joel, whether that be Naughty Dog or somebody else.”
The Last of Us HBO series is expected to end with season 3. It is not known when the next game will be made. Learn more about what Neil Druckmann has had to say about the future of the franchise at this link.
