‘Vampire Survivors’ Dev Poncle Has 15 Projects in the Works

Poncle, the makers of Vampire Survivors, have many irons in the fire. As such, they’re taking the opportunity to expand and open new studios in multiple countries.

Vampire Survivors is a roguelike game with bullet-hell elements released in October 2022. The game has had tremendous success since then, and now, Poncle, the development team behind the title, is taking the opportunity to expand.

Poncle Is Growing and Has Several Projects in the Works and Is Expanding Into New Regions

During a conversation with Christopher Dring of The Game Business, Matteo Sapio, Poncle Chief Strategy Officer, revealed that they are opening small studios in Japan and Italy. It’s his hope that by opening smaller Studios, they will be able to maintain the indie spirit of the company.

“We are not talking about a gigantic remote studio. We are thinking about it like a federation of studios. Our idea is to have little teams of people – five, 10, 15 – working on different projects. The structure will be, we will have a designer, a bunch of producers, and this little team that’s agile and flexible. That is how we think we will maintain this spirit. Because what is the indie spirit? It is mainly freedom and taking risks with ideas.”

Furthermore, he noted that they don’t want to be an AAA or even an AA studio. They strive to continue being efficient with their spending and avoid ” useless risks. Additionally, they are pausing their third-party publishing plans.

“We did publishing because we wanted to give back to the community, and to release games that maybe no-one else was able to release. Berserk or Die is a game that you play [by bashing] a keyboard. It was very strange. We wanted to help. But we found that we weren’t able to give the right support. We didn’t do the best for this game. So, we’ve paused a little bit. At the moment, profit is not a priority. We’re trying to build a community. And we will continue to do publishing in the future.”

It was later clarified on Twitter that “15 projects” does not mean 15 separate games. Instead, it includes free updates, the games they’ve published, and more.
