Slay the Spire 2 recently received its first major update. As with the first optional update, it has led to a string of negative reviews.
The major update was pushed to the main game on April 16. This update pulled all the content, changes, and fixes from the beta branch over the initial time frame since the game’s been released and pushed them live to the main game.
When those beta updates were pushed, the game was hit with a wave of negative reviews. So much so that the developers had to revert some of the changes. Now that the main game has received a complete update, the negative reviews have started again.
Slay the Spire 2’s New Negative Reviews
Some reviews discuss data being deleted, and many discuss frustration with the balancing. One reviewer, named “hide on bush,” questions how the game had ended up like this so far, saying, “Stop burying your head in the sand and hiding behind praise while ignoring criticism. A beta should actually function like a beta. Playing dead only drains players’ patience.”
“Developers seem to be making changes for the worse. Many runs you can breeze through rooms only to suffer defeat due to gimmicks of elites or bosses. The revamped “door” boss is the latest offender. Such handicaps from the boss EACH turn are annoying, but it’s ridiculous the boss also hits for 30+ in addition EACH turn,” another review read.
The game remains one of the most-played on Steam, and many initially loved it upon its March 5 launch. However, the developers have made it clear that the road to 1.0 is very long.
