In a recent post on social media that, at the time of writing, had racked up more than 30 million impressions, The White House used unmistakable Call of Duty footage spliced with real war clips to produce a little bit of propaganda about the war in Iran.
The post was captioned ‘Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue’ and it showed a player calling in an MGB (Mass Guided Bombs) in Modern Warfare 3 (2023) on the remastered Afghan map (you can roll your eyes now). Following that, the scene shifted to real targets being destroyed by American ordinance in and around Iran.
This is a Strange Way to Start the Day
The White House has attempted to reach a younger market with propaganda containing fragments of Call of Duty footage intertwined with real clips captured in the ongoing war in Iran. As the short sequence opens, we see a killstreak summoned in Modern Warfare 3 (2023), made to look as though that player character is wreaking havoc on Iran.
As the clip unfolds, we see targets struck by ordinance in Iran, and The White House editors have gone so far as to add in-game experience points for each enemy eliminated.
It’s weird, but that’s the world we live in, right?
This isn’t the first time that The White House has tried to appeal to gamers to boost sentiments amongst younger voters, though. In October 2025, the social media team under the Trump administration used AI to turn the President into Master Chief, showcasing him in Spartan armor and saluting the U.S. flag.
These days, war is much more visible, thanks to the ongoing evolution of social media. We see harrowing clips surfacing on social media platforms worldwide within minutes of them being captured on the ground in countries like Iran. It’s desensitizing the world to war, but to the level that President Trump’s team could fuse real-world devastation with Call of Duty memes? That’s probably a bit far.
