An Oblivion Remaster rumor is dominating all the gaming headlines. But this has raised eyebrows about the fan-made Sykblivion project. If you’re worried about its development being affected, fear not; its leader has quelled any doubts.
To borrow a line from The US Office: “It’s happening, everybody stay calm!” An Oblivion Remaster of Bethesda’s legendary Elder Scrolls 4 was unofficially confirmed thanks to screenshots going live early. Now, we’re already preparing to set foot in Cyrodiil again and steal everything in sight.
For the longest time, it didn’t seem like a remake or remaster would happen. This is one of the reasons for the Skyblivion fan-made project, and the Oblivion Remaster doesn’t seem to be endangering.
Skyblivion to Release in 2025: “It Only Exists Because Bethesda Allowed it”

Skyblivion is a top-to-bottom reimagining of Oblivion featuring a team of volunteers “Porting and rebuilding Cyrodiil along with all of its quests, locations, and characters into Skyrim: Special Edition.” This is the mission objective for Skyblivion, and work has been ongoing since 2012!
Years of hard work later, Skyblivion is getting close to its long-awaited release in 2025. However, many fan-made projects are usually threatened with legal action by the original companies, causing the project to stop and all work consigned to history.
Project lead Kyle ‘Rebelzize’ Rebel was contacted by VG247 following the Oblivion Remaster leaks. Rebel said this about Skyblivion’s status: “Luckily, this thing was all about passion from the start, and it still is. I’ve gotten more out of this than I ever imagined, friends, experience, and it made me realize I wanted to work in the gaming industry, which I ended up doing. At the end of the day, it only exists because Bethesda allowed it, so I guess if the official remake is real, it’s good that we were still allowed to exist at all.”
Unless Bethesda intervenes at a later date, it should ensure that 13 years of hard work aren’t wasted.
If you have a choice between the two, will you play the as-yet-unannounced Oblivion Remaster? Support the Skyblivion project? Or a big enough fan to play both! Let us know in the Insider Gaming Forum, and subscribe to our weekly newsletter for more announcements and stories.
