The 3dSen Is An Emulator The Plays NES Games In 3D

A new emulator has just been fully released that lets you play classic NES games in 3D. The 3dSen is an emulator from Geod Studio that takes old games from the NES console and, using under-the-hood programming, plays them in a 3D voxel format.

The emulator hit its full launch after being in early access for over half a decade.

“After over 10 years of solo development — countless late nights, mysterious bugs, painful rewrites, and yes, constant back pain —
3dSen PC \[VR] has officially exited Early Access!,” Geod Studio said in the announcement of version 1.0.

“This isn’t just a version number,” they continued. “It’s the result of 10 years of exploration, perseverance, and belief in something weird, personal, and wonderful. Thank you for being a part of this journey.”

As of publishing, there are over 100 games that are supported by the software with more to come. Games currently supported include Castlevania, MegaMan 1-3, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, Mike Tyson’s PunchOut!, and more.

In addition to the 3D voxel transformation, 3dSen includes quick saves and loads, fast-forward, rollback and rewing, custom camera zooms, zapper light gun support, and motion gesture gameplay.

Since this is emulation, it’s important to mention that players need to provide their own copies of the game for the software. 3dSen is an emulator only, and, similar to the free software RetroArch, doesn’t include any games.

In addition to the base 3dSen software, there is also a VR version.

Are you going to give 3dSen a try with your old NES games? Let us know down below, and join the discussion in the official Insider Gaming forums.
