Tarkov Head Splits Community With New ‘Kord Breach’ Season Image

Escape from Tarkov’s studio head, Nikita Buyanov, has revealed an image related to the upcoming Kord Breach season, the first official season in Tarkov’s history. It kickstarts a new initiative to introduce a fresh character angle, offering players highly modifiable ways to play with a model that resets every few months.

Kord Breach, which is the name of the first season, is based around the Black Division faction that was introduced in the ICEBREAKER update. In a new post on social media, Buyanov revealed some of the potential modifiers coming to the first season, and they’ve immediately split the community.

Tarkov’s First Season Draws Closer

This month, Escape from Tarkov will get an all-new way to play the game, with Battlestate Games adding seasonal characters with the Kord Breach update. These will be one-shot characters that exist for a season and then never again, subject to various modifiers, both global and personal, during a season that will include a battle pass, unique rewards, and a tougher gameplay loop.

The first thing that triggered some folks on social media was the revelation (again) that the seasonal character model is bound exclusively to the game’s PvP environment, which locks PvE players out of the opportunity to enjoy the new mode.

This isn’t a new piece of information, though. Nikita has long said that seasons will be PvP-exclusive… For now.

In the image Nikita posted on social media, we see some of the personal modifiers coming with the first season of Escape from Tarkov. These personal modifiers are what players can pick from to make their ride through the season easier or tougher, and there’s one buff in particular that has fans split down the middle.

It’s called Average, and it’s one of the most ‘expensive’ modifiers players can pick heading into Kord Breach. With this modifier, players have all their skills set to level 25 when the season starts, but they’ll never be able to grind them further. This is brilliant for the more casual, ’employed’ gamers, but it’s a tough one for those who want to crank certain skills to the max.

The negative modifiers coming with Kord Breach certain play true to their name. There’s one that locks player-to-player trading on the Flea Market, and another that makes players allergic to random medical or food items, without stating up front what they’ll be or what the effects of that allergy are.

Folks were even annoyed that some of the ‘toughest achievements in the game’, such as unlocking the Kappa safe container, will now be instantly available simply by ticking a box at the start of the season. It’s the most expensive modifier in the game, but ‘Kappa Protocol’ gives you the game’s largest safe container from the outset.

Are you torn by any of the modifiers lined up for Kord Breach in Escape from Tarkov? It’s worth stating that the screenshot provided is scrolled to the bottom, so there are many more modifiers to pick from. Let us know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
