It was around a week ago that Capcom began counting down to the full reveal of Resident Evil: Survival Unit, an all-new mobile game set in the Resident Evil universe. Not much was known about the game until now. Earlier today, Shinji Hashimoto, executive producer of Survival Unit, presented a 25-minute video about the upcoming title.
Survival Unit promises to offer a strategy-based experience fused with survival elements. It has already been revealed that the game’s lineup is expansive, featuring almost every main or supporting character from the Resident Evil series.
‘A Dream Come True’
In a segment of the 25-minute reveal of Resident Evil: Survival Unit, Capcom’s Masachika Kawata, producer of the RE series, appeared and made some bold promises:
We trust Hashimoto-san and JOYCITY (developer) with the game’s content, and we’re working closely with them to ensure the authenticity of the world and its characters.
I would consider it a dream come true for Resident Evil fans, as numerous characters and creatures from across the series make appearances.
For me, it’s so refreshing to see characters who didn’t have major roles in the main series now take center stage in this game. Also, as this is a strategy game, I think those interested in Resident Evil, but who aren’t as interested in action games, can enjoy it.
JOYCITY has been given the keys to the castle with Resident Evil: Survival Unit, bringing in a staggering array of characters from the last 30 years of Resident Evil.
The 25-minute video below highlights the full walkthrough from the game’s producers and developers, and also showcases a huge chunk of gameplay mechanics.
The gameplay segment of the trailer reveals that players will explore many iconic locations from the game from an all-new perspective, soaking up charming visuals and authentic representations of the characters they know and love. Survival Unit offers never-before-seen collaborations and team-ups, with characters breaking borders to fight alongside each other in ways we never thought possible.
It was explained:
Iconic characters from across the series come together in one world to create a special experience for all Resident Evil fans.
We hope fans will enjoy this one-of-a-kind game – unique in its own way and brought to life by drawing from many different titles in the series.
The gameplay looks great, and there’s nothing to detract from the premise because it’s ‘only’ a mobile game. Fighting enemies looks like a diverse experience, bolstered by there being so many different characters to pick from, and the strategy-driven model sees players utilise attacks, defences, upgrades, and special movesets.
