Supermassive Games Begins Consultation for Up to 75 Job Cuts

Supermassive Games has begun a redundancy consultation process that could result in up to 75 employees losing their jobs, with the studio calling the move necessary for stability.

A little over a year ago, they announced a similar consultation which was slated to impact up to 36 employees. At the same time, Directive 8020 was delayed from October 2025 to 2026. The game was eventually released in May of this year.

Then, in late June 2026, the CEO Robert Henrysson announced that he was stepping down from the studio after spending two years at the helm.

Up to 75 Supermassive Games Employees Face Redundancy

The latest impending job cuts were announced via Twitter in a full statement that called the decision difficult but noted it was necessary to help ensure the company’s sustainability. Supermassive also noted that its primary priority would be providing support to those affected

You can read the full statement below:

We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues. This is a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.

We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted.

Supermassive produced DLC for several of the LittleBigPlanet games. Until Dawn, released in 2015, was also a massive success for the company. They also developed The Quarry and the Little Nightmares trilogy.
