Steam has announced that they are working on changing how discounts and events work starting in early 2027 to make them more discoverable.
The developers announced that with the new changes to discounts, Steam will shift away from a manual, calendar-based approach and adopt a more dynamic and personalized system for each customer. This transition aims to make a greater variety of discounted games and sale events more easily discoverable.
Steam Discount System Changing To Boost Discoverability
The Steam development team has been experimenting with discounts over the past few months to match the right games with the right buyers. These experiments involved replacing some curated sections with dynamic and personalized recommendations. As a result, the team discovered that they could show 10x more games to buyers in a single day. This change also contributed to an increase in page visits, wishlists, and items added to carts.

Currently, the development team does not have a specific date for when they will implement these changes for players, as they are still in progress. However, they announced that the curated calendar for the Discounts & Events section will completely end “sometime early next year.” They have also suspended the scheduling of curated placements in that section, which includes Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals. Additionally, developers will receive new and updated tools to manage their discounts and sale events on Steam.
