Star Wars Eclipse Development Is “Very Slow Going”

What’s really going on with Star Wars Eclipse? First announced at The Game Awards in 2021, information regarding the action-adventure game from developer Quantic Dream has been few and far between.

The last update anyone has heard in an official capacity was that work was continuing on the game alongside other projects. All that was said was that they were “eager to share more with you in the future.”

Well, months and multiple discussions later, there’s a bit of an update on where things stand with both the game and its developer.

As first mentioned during the latest episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, development on Star Wars Eclipse has been “very slow going”. One source even mentioned the fact that the team had been making “very little progress over months.” For what it’s worth, a good portion of the game has been completed, but, for what they still need to wrap up, sources say it hasn’t been going all that well.

“The game, at this stage, is still looking to be years off from completion,” one source said back in December.

When followed up on what can be done to push up the timeline and get a game out, that same source said they had talks of expanding the development staff, but NetEase didn’t want to invest at that moment, while they decided what they wanted to do long-term. Both NetEase and Quantic Dream, the source says, are really relying on Spellcasters Chronicles, which entered Early Access in February, to bring in revenue that can then be spent on Eclipse’s development.

“At this stage, the long-term outlook is less driven by creative capabilities and more by financial viability,” they said. “Should Spellcasters fail commercially, NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment.”

Neither Quantic Dream nor parent company NetEase responded to multiple requests for comment on this story.

  • This will never release, and the game they put out that is supposed to get them money for SWE wont get any traction either. Sucks, cause I wanna play this, but that side project game just looked bad to me and was time n money wasted they should have kept towards SWE
