Splitgate 2 CEO Apologizes for SGF Controversy

Players who tuned in or attended Summer Game Fest earlier this week may have spotted a peculiar hat on the 1047 Games CEO’s head during the Splitgate 2 panel. The CEO has just apologised for wearing this hat.

1047 Games CEO, Ian Proulx, has posted a new video on the official Splitgate 2 X account (formerly Twitter), explaining and apologising for the hat he wore during Summer Games Fest. For those wondering, his hat said “Make FPS Great Again”.

Proulx started explaining why he wore the hat, explaining it was supposed to be a meme that would help get more eyes to the title. Proulx mentioned that it is hard for an independent studio to get attention for their game, and they also provided an example of how their trailer was lost amongst 50 others at The Game Awards. This is why the Spligate 2 CEO wanted to do something big when the game came out of beta.

The CEO adds that it wasn’t their intention to be taken “in a political manner”; he understood that this move would raise eyebrows and bring controversy. But their goal was to use this as “a meme” that stated their truth.

Proulx apologises for how this move may have impacted the community, which has seemed to have created a division. The Spligate 2 CEO reiterates their intention to take this meme at face value. The team genuinely wants to improve the FPS genre and feels it is in a bad state. At the same time, he understands it’s not just about intent; it’s about impact, too, and this move has created a negative impact for which he is truly sorry.

In other news, Spligate 2 bundle prices have been slashed as devs respond to criticism. Also, their battle royale mode has dropped. What are your thoughts on Spligate 2 CEO apologising for SGF controversy? Let us know below and join the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
