Sony and Honda’s PlayStation Car Has Been Cancelled

The PlayStation Remote Play-enabled car, Afeela, from Sony and Honda has been cancelled.

Late last year, it seemed that development of this upcoming vehicle was progressing smoothly, as Sony and Honda announced that Afeela would begin deliveries in California in 2026. However, between then and now, things seem to have changed with both parties reevaluating the path ahead.

Sony and Honda’s Afeela 1 and Second Model Discontinued

In a new blog post, Sony Honda Mobility Inc. (SHM) announced that it will discontinue the launch and development of AFEELA 1, its second AFEELA model. SHM arrived at this decision after a discussion between Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. The decision comes right after Honda reassessed its automobile electrification strategy earlier this month.

Due to the reassessment, SHM “will not be able to utilize certain technologies and assets that were originally planned to be provided by Honda at the time of SHM’s initial business planning”. Hence, the decision was made that there is no “viable path forward to bring the Models to market as originally planned.”

However, this doesn’t mean SHM will end, as Sony and Honda continue to discuss future business plans. At the moment, the company will issue full refunds to users who reserved the Afeela 1 in California.

  • It was a stupid idea always was. More studio closures on the way. Maybe now Nissan and Honda can merge. Sidenote Mitsubishi should get back into TV’s especially Japan. Since no more true Japanese brands.
