Sega Once Said It Was ‘Done With Sonic’

During a new interview with GamesRadar+, Takashi Iizuka discussed how Sega once said that they were ‘done with Sonic’. Iizuka first discussed the challenging period in Sonic’s history, where Sega came up to him and told him, “You know what? We don’t need you to make any more Sonic games. We’re good. We’re done with Sonic.”

Iizuka was told that if he doesn’t head to America and work towards “raising Sonic back up, Sonic is going to end, and we’re just going to be done with it.” He also thanked the fans who have supported the franchise for so long and helped keep it afloat.

Now, the franchise looks like it’s in a steady place again, with the franchise valued at billions, regularly releasing new titles, and also working towards expanding its reach across other media. However, players should know that if Sonic didn’t manage to get back on his feet, we might not be getting any more games today.
