Less than two weeks after its announcement, Jagex has canceled RuneScape Reignited after player criticism. Jagex says it missed the mark and will not move forward with the fresh-start project.
Jagex announced the cancellation via a YouTube update and a coinciding transcription blog post, where Mod Ryan, the game’s creative director, thanked players for their feedback and confirmed the RuneScape Reignited project has been canceled.
“I said on stage that we would not repeat the same mistakes of the past, and I truly stand by that. Considering this, we have made the decision to cancel Reignited.”
Jagex Cancels RuneScape Reignited, Keeps December 2 Free Trial
Although Jagex canceled RuneScape Reignited, it will still release its December 2 update, which includes a 10-day free trial for free-to-play players to try member content. Additionally, Ryan apologized to those who were looking forward to a new beginning in RuneScape with Reignited.
The planned Adventure Guide and the first part of the remastered journey will still be released on December 2. Ryan also said it’s still a good time to try RuneScape, with the promise of no split worlds.
So we’re still going to open the gates on December 2nd with a 10 day free trial that runs for 10 days between December 2nd and December 12th. New characters, or any character that on December 2nd has not been in membership since the 2nd of June, will be able to freely access RuneScape Members worlds and content during the 10 day period.
Aside from the RuneScape Reignited cancellation, the 2027 roadmap, also announced during RuneFest, remains on track. Jagex believes the Reignited conversation overshadowed the roadmap, and it is considered one of the best roadmap reveals in recent memory, promising to rebuild the game from the ground up with the core community in mind.
