50 Cent discusses the shooting scenes in the brand-new Street Fighter movie. The Grammy Award-winning rapper who defined the early 2000s plays Balrog in the latest big-screen adaptation of Capcom’s iconic fighting game series. In a new interview, he reflects on filming the movie’s all-important fight scenes.
50 Cent Says Street Fighter Captures Early-’90s Energy

In a new interview with Complex, 50 Cent joined several Street Fighter stars in reflecting on bringing this legendary fighting game franchise back to the big screen in the 2020s. He admitted boxing had been part of his life for a long time, and it helped him understand a fighter’s mindset and bring more realism to Balrog.
“I took things I’ve seen from fighters over the years—that confidence, intimidation, aggression, the way a fighter carries himself when he knows what his hands can do—and brought that into Balrog,” he said.
When reflecting on the fight scenes, 50 Cent also said they were fun to film, especially because of the character he portrays. He also praised the film for capturing the energy of the early 90s, when the Street Fighter franchise dominated the arcade scene.
“What I like is that the movie has personality outside of the fighting, too. They really leaned into that early-’90s Street Fighter energy: the attitude, the humor, the style, these larger-than-life characters. So Balrog gets to exist as a character and not just somebody who comes in and throws punches.”
So far, the movie isn’t receiving rave reviews, sitting at just over 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans of the franchise can judge for themselves when Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16.
