Jagex CEO recently revealed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds has sold 1.3 million copies in early access, which wasn’t expected.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a fresh adventure that introduces players to a brand-new continent and an original character. This open-world survival game, which entered early access last year, features the studio’s signature RPG systems along with the classic RuneScape elements. It appears that this new title is resonating well with players, as it has already achieved significant sales milestones during its early access phase.
RuneScape Dragonwilds is Doing Well in Countries Like China
The latest sales numbers for RuneScape Dragonwilds were provided by the Jagex CEO, Jon Bellamy, during an interview with The Game Business. Speaking about the third game in the franchise, Bellamy revealed that the team expected to sell only 200,000 copies in early access but is now sitting at 1.3 million. Additionally, since the beginning of July alone, RuneScape Dragonwilds has already sold another 100,000 copies.

RuneScape Dragonwilds sales were amplified thanks to the game’s release in Southeast Asia. The developers assumed that, due to the game’s “Monty Python-style” British humor, it resonated with Western audiences in countries like Finland, the Netherlands, and the US. However, it has also resonated well in Japan, and the Chinese version of the game accounted for 41% of the sales in the first week and has now evened out to “15% to 20% a day.” This has proven that the dev team’s “long-held suspicions about cultural fit aren’t as true” as they assumed.
