Rockstar opened a new studio in Los Angeles due to the ‘horrifying’ scale of Grand Theft Auto 6, providing further indication of the scope of the game.
Releasing November 19, GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated video game of all time and will bring an end to the eight-year wait since Rockstar‘s last release.
While Rockstar titles have always been pretty huge, the plans for GTA 6 quickly revealed that changes were required.
Rockstar Opened LA Studio Due to GTA 6 Scale
Speaking to Bloomberg, development lead Rob Nelson detailed how, when considering the scope of NPCs that were planned to be added to the game, it was clear they didn’t have the required production capabilities, which led to the opening of a studio in Los Angeles.
“The projections they were giving us were horrifying,” Nelson said, with the Bloomberg article saying Rockstar ‘decided to throw money at the problem.’
That meant that, even with all eyes on GTA 6 and a lengthy break from the previous release of Red Dead Redemption 2, delays were inevitable and, even now, development is ‘never really settled’.
At the new Los Angeles studio, writers, producers, and directors were appointed to create NPCs, which would expand the living, breathing world around players.
Attention at Rockstar is now, understandably, primed towards next month’s big launch, which, by all expectations, is poised to be a record-breaker for the industry.
