Redfall launched on May 2 to plenty of mixed and negative reviews. Currently on Metacritic, the game sits with Metascores on Xbox and PC of 59 and 56, respectively. And if it looked like the critical response has been poor, the Redfall player base response has been even worse, especially on PC.
According to the latest information from SteamDB, the Redfall player base has dropped by more than 70% on the platform since the game’s launch. Though the game is also available on Xbox and Game Pass, seeing a drop by that much is not something Bethesda, Arkane Austin, or Xbox expected to see.
In speaking with the Kinda Funny Xcast on Thursday, Xbox’s Phil Spencer admitted he wasn’t happy about the launch of Redfall.
“There’s nothing that’s more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community and just to kind of watch the community lose confidence and be disappointed, I’m disappointed, I’m upset with myself,” he said.
“The critical response was not what we wanted. I kinda picked myself up, what can we learn, what can we get better? What thing I will fight is what went wrong, there are clearly quality and executions things we can do. But one thing I won’t do is push against creative aspirations of our teams.”
Have you played Redfall yet?
I played for 30 minutes, deleted the game and never going back. Not worth any more of my time.
