A gameplay screenshot of Ubisoft’s canceled game, Project U, has leaked online, revealing what the game could have been.

The screenshot of Project U’s gameplay came from X user Kran, who asked whether posting an image of the game would violate his NDA if the game has been canceled.
Insider Gaming reported that Project U was undergoing a major restructuring in late 2024, as Ubisoft felt PvE games could still be successful. However, Ubisoft seemingly couldn’t find the fun factor in the project and canceled the game in early 2026 amid a company restructuring.
Project U was a somewhat unusual PvE game, where ten teams of four would battle it out in PvE combat against progressively more difficult enemies as they progressed through the map’s zones. Playtesters cited the game as fun, but Ubisoft struggled to find its replayability.
Previously codenamed Pathfinder, the game was canceled after around seven years of development because of how players were meant to navigate the map. It’s unknown how much the project cost Ubisoft, but Ubisoft sources said the game was a constant headache for developers and went through various issues because of a lack of overall direction and vision. Early versions of the game say the games map built on top of Ghost Recon Wildlands’ map, in an attempt to save development time and costs.
The latest iteration of the game’s enemies drew heavy inspiration from the machines in Guerrilla Games’ Horizon series in an attempt to try and give players more reasons to latch onto the game.
In 2025, the game’s intro cinematic leaked online, and Ubisoft has since removed it via DMCA.
