Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is now the second-best-selling Pokémon game of all time, according to the latest sales data, in a year that is set to be huge for the franchise.
The ninth generation of Pokémon, Scarlet & Violet, saw the franchise take another significant leap forward with fully open-world gameplay, and, despite performance issues, was a major hit.
As reported by Serebii, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has now sold 26.79 million units, putting it behind only the original games, Red & Blue, on the list of the best-selling Pokémon games of all time.
The sales number also marks the first time that a second-generation Pokémon title on a console has outsold the first, with Scarlet & Violet’s sales numbers eclipsing those from Sword & Shield, giving the Paldea region another feather in its cap.
What’s Next After Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

The Scarlet & Violet era of Pokémon is beginning to wind down, but with no news of Gen 10’s release as of yet, it still has some energy left in the tank—though a major shift is coming later this year with the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Bringing players back to Illuminose City, Legends Z-A is the latest spin-off title in the Pokémon franchise, following the success of Legends: Arceus, and the main highlight is the return of Mega Pokémon.
Mega Pokémon returning opens the door for major expansions to other aspects of the franchise, including Pokémon Go, Pokémon TCG Pocket, and the physical trading card game, the latter of which has already announced the return of Mega Pokémon in sets later this year.
Beyond that, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise and will likely be celebrated hugely, perhaps with the release of Gen 10 on Nintendo Switch 2, and we could also see anniversary sets in the TCG, as well as potential remakes of older Pokémon games.
